THE CULTURED MOUSE EMBRYO AS A MODEL FOR THE EVALUATION OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL TOXICITY
The embryotoxicity of tritium labelled amino acids and the precursors of DNA and RNA is demonstrated for the pre-implanted and post-implanted mouse embryo. In addition, the detrimental effects of heavy metals and organic chemicals that are widespread environmental contaminants, is also put into evidence. The sensitivity of the cultured mouse embryo to manifold pollutants substantiates its use in the evaluation of the toxicity of these pollutants, be they physical or chemical.
