Abstract

The plasma in the scrape-off layer and the behaviour of impurities during application of LH waves have been studied in PETULA. In the current drive regime a decrease of impurities is observed during and after the R.F. pulse, which is due to a strong modification of the electron temperature profile and of the edge density. In the ion heating regime, sputtering from fast unconfined ions creates continuous flux of heavy impurities, which increases dramatically radiative losses.
