Abstract

The fast ion tails produced during Lower Hybrid Heating are studied as a function of the RF power and of the grill phasing. Experimental data are in good agreement with simple propagation theories although the mean energy saturates at high power. Effective bulk heating (3.8 10**13 cm**-3 + eV/kW) is obtained. Good agreement is obtained between Doppler broadening of the Ne IX and O VII lines and charge exchange and neutron data. Decay wave dependences are discussed.
