MODE CONVERSIONS OF LOWER HYBRID WAVES
Mode conversion between fast and slow waves in the lower hybrid frequency range is considered. This phenomenon is of importance in that it determines the accessibility of the lower hybrid resonance to the slow wave, and our object here is to see if there are any circumstances under which partial conversion may occur and the usual ray tracing method break down. It is also of some theoretical interest in that it demonstrates a type of mode conversion somewhat different from most of those investigated previously.
