Abstract

Production of hot gas at temperatures up to 1250 degrees C A twin cell fluidized bed furnace has been operated in a gasifier - char combustor mode to determine optimum conditions and geometric configurations for production of high temperature exhaust gas. A successful design arrangement has been developed and during steady state conditions gas compositions have been analyzed and final mixed gas temperatures in excess of 1250 degrees C have been achieved. Production of clean heated air at temperatures up to 600 degrees C A small scale test rig to examine and evaluate heat exchanger tube materials in a coal fired fluidized bed and to provide heat transfer data has been operated over a range of conditions in an initial test programme. The original performance predictions of the concept have been validated and after determination of a suitable in-bed tube material a scaled-up industrial demonstrator has been designed and constructed. Production of hot gas with low dust content at temperatures up to 700 degrees C A test furnace to examine heat transfer data, bed materials distributor design and the quality of the low dust content gas produced has been designed and constructed.
