THE MARINE COASTAL ZONE REMOTE SENSING PROGRAM OF THE JRC
A short historic overview of the activity will be given. Given that this activity is mainly based on the Nimbus 7 CZCS Sensor, a review of its main characteristics will be given together with an evaluation of its strong and weak points. The atmospheric correction procedure will be discussed, the algorithms for the determination of chlorophyll and sediment and the special procedure for the geometric correction of the final thematic maps. The main characteristics of the mathematical model of the Adriatic Sea will be discussed with emphasis on the 4 different steps to be executed. The future prospectives of the activity as far as available space born sensors are concerned will be evaluated.
