Abstract

1982 saw the take-off of the project to build a large Tokamak with TORE SUPRA supraconductor coils at Cadarache: the reactor should be operational by 1987. Meanwhile efforts continue to take maximum advantage of the Fusion labs. at Grenoble and Fontenay-aux-Roses before they close in 1985 - 1986. The team of scientists now numbering 110, has started to finalize programmes for experiments in physics, diagnostics and heat technology. In particular projects for ice injection, heating with cyclotron resonance of electrons, the study of HF waves with hybrid resonance and the creation of electron current in plasma are all underway through collaboration with scientists in Denmark, Netherlands, and Grenoble. Work on ion sources, the injection of neutrals and negative beams has also progressed with particular success in the area of multicharged ion sources based on electronic resonance. The major institutes (CEA, IRDI, IPSN, IRF) have worked together to determine research programmes which in 1982 will represent a turnover of 7 million francs.
