SYSTEM OF LARGE TRANSPORT CONTAINERS FOR WASTE FROM DISMANTLING LIGHT WATER AND GAS COOLED NUCLEAR REACTORS - VOLUME 2.
This report is edited in two volumes. It was prepared jointly by Transnubel SA, Dessel, Belgium (TNB) and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) together with Belgonucleaire SA, Brussels, Belgium (BN) as subcontractor to TNB and PPC Consultant Services Ltd., Crawley, United Kingdom (previously Pollution Prevention (Consultants) Ltd.) (PPC) as subcontractor to the UKAEA. This work was also supported in part by the UK Department of the Environment as an aid to the formulation of UK Government policy. The purpose of Volume 1 is to introduce the main types of nuclear reactor in the European Community (EC), select reference plants for further study, estimate the waste streams from the reference reactors, survey the transport regulations and assess existing containers. The purpose of Volume 2 is to assess the means of transportation of decommissioning wastes, costs of transport, radiological detriment attributable to transport and develop conceptual designs of large transport containers. The document ends with Conclusions and Recommendations drawn from both volumes of this Study.
