NON-THERMAL ELECTRON CYCLOTRON EMISSION IN THE FT AND TFR TOKAMAKS WITH RF HEATING
FT AND TFR TOKAMAKS WITH RF HEATING. Direct coupling of RF power to electrons via Landau damping has been investigated in several experiments for the LH range of frequency and more recently for the ICRF in the two ions hybrid resonance linear mode conversion regime. In both cases non thermal electron cyclotron emission was observed. By comparing the measured ECE spectra with those computed from the theory of a Maxwellian electron distribution with a superimposed non thermal population the parameters as well as the spatial position of the superthermal electrons are deduced. It is clearly shown that a low density, high energy electron trail and a higher density mildly superthermal population are created for the LH and ICRF cases respectively. These results are discussed within the general framework of the LH or ICRF heating models.
