Abstract

This book is a study of the political and administrative institutions of, and the laws relating to pollution control in, Belgium and Luxembourg. It lists measures taken against air, water and noise pollution, and against dirty and dangerous buildings; measures taken regarding the protection of the atmosphere, surface and underground waters, the sea; methods for the treatment and disposal of wastes, ionizing radiation; and the control of food processing. In conclusion, the Belgian experience shows that too many organizations and too many regulations reduce efficiency in an area where united action and urgency are at a premium. However, conclusions regarding the situation in Luxemburg are much more favourable.
