Abstract

In the framework of a contract of the Community programme on "Management and Storage of Radioactive Waste", a preliminary exercise for intercomparison of geomechanical computer codes for salt (COSA) was carried out in 1985. Ten computer teams from member states participated in the exercise, for which the British firm Atkins acted as coordinator. The work programme included two "levels": a first one concerned a simple, theoretical problem, and aimed at testing the numerical accuracy of codes, a second one was based on a reduced scale laboratory test performed at the Technical University Delft (NL), and allowed to measure the capabilities of codes to replicate real world's situations.
