DISTRIBUTION OF DEUTERIUM IN THE CUBIC LAVES PHASES THZR-2D-X
A room temperature neutron powder diffraction study of the cubic Friauf-Laves ThZr-2D-x deuterides has been performed. Four different deuterium compositions have been investigated, namely x = 3.6 ; x = 4.8 ; x = 6.0 and x = 6.3. Deuterium atoms are distributed in the metals network over two types of partially occupied tetrahedral interstices, one being formed by 1 Th and 3 Zr atoms, the other by 2 Th and 2 Zr atoms. The site occupancy increases quite regularly with the deuterium content.
