  • INTERNATIONAL INTERCOMPARISON OF HIGH ATTENUATION VALUES (60 DB, 100 DB) IN COAXIAL LINES AT THE FREQUENCY 30 MHZ BETWEEN SOME NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF COUNTRIES OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES

Abstract

This report describes the first international intercomparison of high attenuation measurements up to 100 dB at 30 MHz. Participants were the IENGF, LCIE, NPL, VSL and the PTB. Three standard attenuators were circulated: one of 60 dB and two of 100 dB, developed by the PTB. The two measurement methods used were the RF parallel substitution method with national standard attenuators (IEN, LCIE, NPL, VSL) and the power ratio method with a chain of precise GR 900 coaxial attenuators in cascade (PTB). All measurement results agreed within +/- 0.016 dB for the 60 dB transfer attenuator and within +/- 0.07 dB for the 100 dB attenuators. In the best cases differences between the laboratories were +/- 0.001 dB for the 60 dB device and +/- 0.005 for the 100 dB attenuators.
