ARRIMAGE DE COLIS DE MATIERES RADIOACTIVES LORS DE LEURS TRANSPORTS ROUTIERS A L'AIDE DE VEHICULES D'UN POIDS ROULANT LIMITE A 38 TONNES
The fourth phase of this program of studies was partly experimental and partly concerned with the formulation of recommendations for the containers of radioactive material during road transport in vehicles with a total weight limited to 38 tons. The experimental part consisted of two types of tests, complementing those which were undertaken in the third phase: + a test, with frontal impact, of a container with an elevated centre of gravity (vertical position) + three tests, with lateral impacts, of a container with low centre of gravity (horizontal position) and with elevated centre of gravity (vertical position). The sum total of the results of the tests undertaken during the third and fourth phases has made it possible to formulate recommendations concerning the containers for radioactive materials when their transport is faced with severe accidental conditions. The damage to which the container may be exposed may be extremely severe and comparable to a fall from a height of several metres on to a punch of 150 mm diameter. The recommendations are included in the security guide no. 37, "Advisory Material for the application of the IAEA Transport Regulations".
