Catalysts made of Raney nickel and including titanium, zirconium, cobalt, bismuth or molybdenum as an additive for reducing the growth rate of nickel crystallites have been evaluated for water electrolysis at 160 degrees C, 20 bar and 10 kA**-2 in 40% KOH. On the anode side, by impregnating the Raney nickel coating with mixed cobalt - lanthanum - strontium oxide, a stable and reproducible decrease of the anodic overvoltage of 150mV is obtained.
