Abstract

Operation of 100 GHz Gyrotrons with 200 kW output power with good efficiencies has been demonstrated with two types of cavities and RF output modes in short pulses. Pulses length have been so far voluntarily limited at 20 msec for 100 kW. The experimental results and the effect of different modifications agree broadly with theoretical predictions, in particular efficiency and output power, and to some extent, mode competition. Beam current interception inherent to complex cavities may not allow 100 msec or longer pulses. Asymmetric modes are free of this constraint, but may need more complicated mode transformers, currently under study.
