Abstract

An organic fluid engine of 100 kW (el) rating, producing power and hot water from waste heat down to about 200 degrees C is illustrated both in its design and fabrication aspects. Main data for the heat transfer equipment (evaporator, condenser and regenerator) and for the two stage direct drive 3000 rpm turbine are reported. The test stand, featuring a fuel fired heat transfer oil heat source loop is illustrated. Performance tests are presented at various working fluid evaporation and condensation temperatures. An overall efficiency (electric energy to heat) in excess of 14% was obtained despite the low temperature span.
