Abstract

In the ECRH experiment of TFR, three 60 GHz gyrotrons deliver in the TE-02 mode more than 200 kW during 100 ms each. The power is then transmitted to the tokamak by circular waveguides where the circular TE-02 mode is converted, via TE-01, into the linearly polarized TE-11. In the first experiments the horizontal polarized wave of the TE-11, launched from the out board side of the torus, has been coupled to the O-mode in the plasma. In further experiments is foreseen the conversion of the TE-11 into the HE-11 mode and the use of a metallic lens to better focalize the beam. To appreciate the improvements that the use of the HE-11 and of a lens could bring, a comparison of the TE-11 and HE-11 mode both in guide and radiated, has been done.
