ELECTRON CYCLOTRON WAVE INTERACTION IN A LOWER HYBRID SUSTAINED PLASMA
Taking as an example an injection of 140 GHz EC waves in FTU tokamak, operating in the heating regime by means of 8 GHz LH waves, we have estimated the modification that EC waves can induce to the electron tail. In a low density regime (n-o approximately equal 1.5x10**14cm**-3) and with the magnetic field on axis of 70 kG it is possible to add heating power to the plasma and also to reduce the negative features due to the Parail-Pogutse instability, when the power of LH waves and EC waves are of the same order. To treat the case where the two RF sources have very different power levels a more detailed computation is needed and, in particular, the investigation of the mechanism which is responsible, in such condition, of the thermalization of the energy of the tail.
