Abstract

Within the framework of the Communities' Second Energy R&D Programme (1979 - 1983) more than 85 contracts concerning new energy saving technologies in the industrial sector have been concluded. The work carried out under most of these contracts has ended and many results have become available. The International Seminar "Energy Conservation in Industry" organized by the Commission of the European Communities in cooperation with the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI) and held at Duesseldorf in February 1984 highlighted the results of these research projects and conveyed them to representatives of national authorities, public, industrial and financial organisations. In this third volume "Applications and technologies" are contained the proceedings of the third day of this three days" meeting, in which the results of research work carried out by contractors were presented in one final plenary session: "Application of Energy Saving Techniques". Contributions cluster round foci: "chemical industry and catalysis + coal and peat"; "metallurgy"; "energy management"; "textile industry"; "cement and glass ceramic industry'; "food industry' and "microwave applications', and rapporteurs' presentations introduce the topics. The volume also carries the concluding remarks of the individual sessions' chairmen.
