Abstract

In the framework of CBNM's programme on fusion reactor neutron data, the alpha particular angular distributions and energy spectra of (n,alpha)-reactions for Ni and Cu were measured at the Van de Graaff laboratory from 5 to 10 NeV neutron energy, in steps of 0.5 MeV. By integration the total (n,alpha) yields of those reactions are deduced from these measurements. The experimental setup consists of five triple telescopes and a ND 6600 multiparameter acquisition system. Special attention was paid to efficiency, low background and a systematic determination of the dead time effect. Basically our measurements rely on the determination of X(n,alpha) rates relative to H(n,p)-rates, but in addition also (n,alpha)-rate of Cu to Ni were measured. Our alpha particle yield data are compared to all data available in literature and in particular to the recommended sets ENDF-B/V, JEF-1 and JENDL-2. This comparison illustrates some nice agreement between experimental data of various origins, but also indicates significant differences from the ENDF-B/V data.
