LEAD IN PETROL
The paper reviews the researches on automotive lead pollution. In particular, the following selective aspects will be considered: (i) relationships between lead content of petrol and blood levels of lead (Pb-B) as well as air lead level and Pb-B. These relationships are of particular interest in relating the exposure of the general population to automotive lead and in determining its biological effects. The extent to which automotive lead causes an increase in the lead blood levels is of particular importance; (ii) present and future situation of permissible lead in leaded petrols in different countries and of standards for air quality; (iii) the utilisation of synfuels.
