Abstract

Energy balance measurements are made routinely on DITE using thermocouples to measure the power conducted to the limiters and thermistors to measure the power transferred to the bellows liner by radiation and charge exchange (1)-. Some measurements are also available for the global power flow. The input power is the sum of the ohmic heating power and the neutral beam heating power. The neutral injection system at present gives 100 mS pulses at powers up to 1.6 MW. The power radiated is obtained from a wide angle bolometer and a bolometer array. The power to the limiters has been estimated by measurements of the parameters of the boundary layer with probes and by measurement of the temperature rise on the limiter with an infrared camera. The present measurements have been made using a rail limiter at 0.21 m and poloidal limiters at 0.26 m as described in the companion paper. Tokamak operating conditions are I-p = 70 to 200 kA, B-T = 1.5 to 2.6 T, n-e = 2 to 8 x 10**19 m -3- and P-NI = 0.3 to 1.2 MW.
