REVIEW OF CURRENT DRIVE EXPERIMENTS AT THE LOWER HYBRID FREQUENCY
In this work the experiments of CD (including start-up and ramp-up) are analyzed trying to put them in the relationship with theoretical models. Particular care is exerted in pointing out what is reasonably understood and what is not. In the first part the CD experiment is examined from a macroscopic point of view. Considering the plasma as an electrical circuit element, the conditions where the new electromotive force generated by the waves is present, are discussed. Then the question of efficiency and the density limit will be addressed. In the following the results on microscopic processes are presented. The data of X-ray and electron cyclotron emission and other diagnostics are examined and the discrepancies and agreements between theory and experiments on the particle - wave interaction are discussed.
