QUALIFICATION AND DURABILITY TESTS FOR SOLAR THERMAL COLLECTORS
After an introduction and a definition of qualification and durability tests a description of the tests used at JRC and elsewhere is given: A. Tests made on the properties of the materials used in collectors. B. Tests made on destructive failures of whole collectors (qualification tests). 1) Resistance to mechanical load. 2) Resistance to absorber to overpressure and leak test. 3) Hail test. 4) Short term dry exposure. 5) Thermal shocks. 6) Freeze test. 7) Rain water tightness test. C. Tests made on slow efficiency degradation of collectors (durability tests). 1) Exposure to ultraviolet irradiation. 2) Outdoor exposure to sun and weather (with analysis of the dry exposure temperature). D. Tests made on the atmospheric corrosion of collectors. E. Tests made on hydraulic corrosion of the heat transfer medium.
