WORKSHOP ON METHODS FOR ASSESSING THE OFF-SITE RADIOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF NUCLEAR ACCIDENTS, PROCEEDINGS 15-19 APRIL 1985, LUXEMBOURG
The Commission of the European Communities (CEC) in collaboration with the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KfK), Federal Republic of Germany, and the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB), United Kingdom organized a workshop, from 15 to 19 April 1985 in Luxembourg, on methods for assessing the off-site radiological consequences of nuclear accidents. The main purpose of this workshop was: (i) to present and discuss the results of the MARIA programme, a two-year plan drawn up in 1982 by the CEC radiation protection research programme to review and develop the probabilistic consequence assessment methods in use in the countries of the European Community; (ii) to review the work currently being undertaken outside the European Community; (iii) to provide an opportunity for open discussion between experts in probabilistic accident consequence assessment. The main conclusion of the workshop is that there exists a considerable interest in and outside the EC in probabilistic accident consequence assessment for nuclear installations; this was shown by the quantity and quality of contributions to the workshop and the informed nature of the discussions after most presentations.
