ENDOCRINE CAUSES OF SEASONAL AND LACTATIONAL ANESTRUS IN FARM ANIMALS. PROCEEDINGS OF A SEMINAR HELD AT MARIENSEE (D) ON OCTOBER 2-3, 1984.
This seminar was designed to pursue several objectives: (1) To discuss and summarize present knowledge of causes and techniques related to seasonal and lactational anestrus; (2) to bring EC laboratories working in the field closer and to stimulate further coordination or collaboration; (3) to stimulate new research in this area. To this end the program headings were selected as (a) Seasonal Anestrus; (b) Lactational Anestrus; (c) Post partum Anestrus. The species discussed were sheep, cow, horse and pig. Basic and applied endocrine aspects of seasonal and lactational anestrus were considered in each session. In all, it can be stated that the seminar has to a large extent fulfilled its objectives and has contributed considerably to our understanding of naturally occurring periods of reduced fertility; it has also shown directions that may eventually lead to its control.
