Abstract

The present paper reports some experience with rather simple C**o elements essentially derived from degenerated and Mindlin concepts and suited also for non-linear dynamic analysis. Both rank deficiency and locking phenomena are considered and various procedures which can be used in order to obtain proper rank without danger of locking are recalled. In particular, a procedure is presented for 4-node and 9-node Mindlin plate elements which totally excludes the occurrence of locking while it simultaneously allows full integration of the stiffness terms and thus avoids the development of kinematic modes.
