LEGAL DATA BASES IN EUROPE - USER ATTITUDES AND SUPPLIER STRATEGIES
This book is based on the final report of a study of the access to legal data bases in Europe, which was carried out for the Commission of the European Communities in the first half of 1985. The study had concentrated on a number of legal information retrieval systems (laws, regulations, court decisions, literature etc.) held on a computer system so as to be accessible either through a computer terminal or as a batch service. The Commission's purpose in producing the final report as a book is to make the results of the report available to a wider audience; only minor editorial changes have been made. Chapters II and III describe the background to the study, including some of the previous studies on legal data bases; chapters IV to VI contain the results of the research into the users' view of legal data bases (responses from the user survey, case histories, etc.); chapter VII gives the results and conclusions of the vendor survey; finally, in chapter VIII some of the developments are brought together which involve users and vendors of legal data bases, and the main trends in the legal data base industry are described.
