ECHANGEUR CERAMIQUE GAZ - GAZ EN CARBURE DE SILICIUM: PROTOTYPE DEUXIEME GENERATION. ESSAIS ET SYNTHESE
This project is concerned with the development of a ceramic (SiC) gas - gas heat exchanger module that can be operated up to 1200 degrees C. This work has been partially supported by E.E.C. under grant n**o EE-B1-107-F. Within the frame of the above contract, the present study has addressed: - thermal and thermomechanical design of a second generation design - construction of a prototype by CERAVER - installation and testing (efficiency, pressure drop, thermal shocks) - techno-economic analysis of the apparatus. Based on results obtained with the first generation module, this work was most particularly oriented toward : - readily integrating industrial constraints that make recovered thermal powers of several hundred kW feasible - considering ceramic forming techniques that allow mass production leading to a substantial gain on manufacturing cost - testing the prototype exchanger under conditions that are representative of an industrial environment. The tested module has a 30 kW power which falls much beyond the initial specifications. Successful tests have demonstrated a good thermal performance up to 1200 degrees C along with adequate resistance to a series of successive thermal shocks. The techno-economic analysis has led to : - the respective weights of each item within manufacturing costs - the most critical manufacturing phases to which much of the development effort must be devoted, viz.: internal spacers which allow adequate air flow within the exchanger - simple modifications which allow substantial gain on overall performance while reducing production cost and maintaining the basic features of the present design.
