Abstract

The development of cermet diaphragms for the advanced alkaline water electrolysis led to a technique which allows to fabricate electrode diaphragm units in one (sintering) step. By the used printing technique the production of thin electrodes in various forms and structures is possible. The electrodes can be modified in their content of different metallic elements like Ni, Co and other for example transition metals independently from each other. Furthermore one electrode itself can be build up from layers which differ in metals content and structure. In spite of these advantages the production process for the electrode diaphragm unit is as simple as it is for the cermet diaphragm alone. For the production of activated cathodes and anodes investigations are reported.
