Abstract

The productivity of the Merksplas-Beerse I Well (Northern Belgium) was after completion much lower than expected on basis of the geology. It was assumed that the low porosity was caused by a positive skin in the borehole. This report deals with an acid stimulation essay of the well. The reservoir zone of the well was isolated by filling the bottom part of the open hole section with sand, and the stimulation technique used was a foam acid treatment. This treatment, designed for at least 1 m penetration into the formation, did not change the skin behaviour. The physical nature of the skin is still unknown. It either does not react on acid, or it is located more than one meter deep in the formation. It could be due to the particular fracture distribution.
