THE RADIOBIOLOGY OF RADIUM AND THOROTRAST. PROCEEDINGS OF A SYMPOSIUM HELD AT NEUHERBERG (D) ON OCTOBER 29-31, 1984.
This volume contains the proceedings of a symposium organized by the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate-General for Science Research and Development (Radiation Protection Programme) and the Gesellschaft fuer Strahlen- und Umweltforschung mbH (Abteilung f Pathologie), and held at Neuherberg, October 29-31, 1984. These proceedings represent up-to-date information on the metabolism of radium and thorium in animal and man, on metabolic and dosimetric models for cells at risk, and on their local dose distribution. Dose-response relationships for the consequences of exposure to these isotopes are reviewed, particularly with respect to cancer in bone, liver and other tissues, as well as to non- stochastic effects. Recent epidemiological data on persons exposed to different radium isotopes or to thorotrast, including clinical, pathological, pathophysiological and dosimetric information are presented; their relevance considered with respect to risk from bone-seeking radionuclides.
