NEUTRON SPECTROSCOPY WITH GELINA
After a brief description of the Geel linear accelerator (GELINA) and its main characteristics, representative examples for two types of measurements are discussed: High resolution neutron resonance spectroscopy aims at the investigation of nuclear structure at excitation energies above neutron emission threshold. In nuclei with not too high a level density, states at these energies are still expected to be sufficiently simple for an interpretation in terms of nuclear models, and the distribution of neutron and radiative strengths is expected to serve as a signature for their structure. The study of neutron induced fission helps to investigate the structure of the fission barrier and the properties of nuclear states at very large deformation.
