Abstract

The linear theory of the rippling instability in a torus permits to anticipate the occurrence, at the edge of Tokamaks, of density fluctuation spectra with up - down asymmetries; at low k-THETA's the waves propagate in the electron diamagnetic direction with a common phase velocity v-ph = (1 + 1.71 eta-e)v-De. These predictions are supported by experimental results from TEXT. We discuss the limitations of the present theory and propose additional experiments.
