ELECTRIC SUPPLY OF EQUIPMENT IN AN ISOLATED SITE IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
This applies to sites not suitable to be linked with a network of distribution of electricity and the type of equipment to be supplied are principally: telecommunications, signals, lighting, measurement, detection and protection, mechanical systems, refrigeration. The main criteria for choice of energy source are autonomy, economic competitiveness, ease of installation, cost of exploitation, output. Autonomous renewable energy sources are: 1) photovoltaic generators 2) aerogenerators Autonomous and non-renewable energy sources are: 1. chemical alkaline batteries 2. thermogenerators 3. turbogenerators 4. electrogenic diesel groups When these sources were measured against ease of management and maintenance, reliability and length of life, photovoltaic generators were shown to best meet the criteria. Autonomous renewable energy sources and mainly photovoltaic generators will play an increasing part in the electric supply of equipment in an isolated site.
