Abstract

This report describes the work done to prepare and certify a batch of aluminium - magnesium alloy containing about 30 mug/g of boron. This material is available in two forms: chips (CRM 329) and discs (CRM 330). The homogeneity was studied using spectrophotometry (for the chips) and using flame emission spectrometry and spark emission spectrometry (for the discs). The analytical methods used for the certification are: potentiometry with ion selective electrode; spectrophotometry; charged particle activation analysis; inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry; and isotope dilution mass spectrometry. The boron content is certified at (30 + 2) mug/g for the chips (CRM 329) and at (32 + 4) mug/g for the discs (CRM 330).
