Abstract

The report describes the initial phase of a project aimed at providing a means of assessing the quality of evaluation algorithms used in the software of coordinate measuring machines (CMM). Using 5 basic geometric elements (straight line, plane, circle, cylinder & cone) containing known distortions, it has been shown that a significant proportion of CMM softwares are either not perfect and give results containing errors of various degrees or are unable to evaluate certain basic geometries.
