Abstract

An earlier CEC publication identified chlamydiosis as a disease of emerging importance to the CEC and took a broad look at the problem. It was the purpose of the two- day workshop to which this publication relates to concentrate on ruminant species in which Chlamydia psittaci can provoke serious outbreaks of abortion as well as other disease syndromes. Within the limited time available the participants sought to consider the prevalence of chlamydial diseases of ruminants in member states, methods for their diagnosis and control and current trends in research. The contacts established or renewed by the meeting and resultant increased awareness afford opportunities for future coordinated activities and pooling of information. Even if those objectives are only partly achieved the meeting will have served its purpose.
