Abstract

The experimental results on phase transitions from regular trivalent rare earth structures to low symmetry collapsed phases in the lanthanides Ce, Pr, Nd and Sm and in the actinides Am, Cm, Bk and Cf are reviewed and compared with present theories on f electron delocalization.
