Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of the safety and reliability assessment of a pressure vessel containing a fatigue crack at the nozzle corner. A possible approach to the problem is presented in the paper. It is based on the finite element, three dimensional non-linear stress analysis, the results of which are used for the determination of the relevant fracture mechanics parameters: strain energy release rate, J integral, stress intensity factor, fatigue crack growth rate. The experimental results obtained and those from the literature, confirm the obtained analytical ones.
