Abstract

Factual data banks with information on chemicals may be a powerful planning tool in the field of environmental protection + including treatment of polluted ground water. The ECDIN data bank contains an extensive collection of data for specific compounds. The formats used in building the data bank allow for an interdisciplinary use of data stored in the relevant files. Examples are given for retrieving information from the ECDIN data bank using: + the display system + numerical searches from 1 data file + numerical searches from 2 or more data files Further data processing after transferring selected data to other computer systems is demonstrated by examples. The potential for linking the data bank with simulation software packages, i.e. for water treatment processes, is indicated.
