  • SEALING OF EXPLORATORY BOREHOLES IN CLAY - REACTIVITY OF ORDINARY PORTLAND CEMENT (OPC) GROUTS AND VARIOUS LITHOLOGIES FROM THE HARWELL RESEARCH SITE. VOLUME 1

Abstract

Exploratory boreholes drilled in clay sequences at the Harwell site were cemented using conventional oil techniques. The study of the quality of this cement job comprises two parts: (a) an investigation into the reactions between the cement grout and the surrounding clay (volume 1); (b) the assessment of geophysical borehole logging (volume 2). Conclusions are drawn about the applicability of these techniques for sealing of boreholes with a view to radioactive waste disposal in clay.
