Abstract

A comparison between two one-dimensional codes for wave propagation in the ion cyclotron frequency regime is performed for JET relevant parameters. The codes compared are the finite element code ISMENE/1 and the multiple layer code FII. The latter code includes a finite parallel electric field and calculates electron Landau and transit time magnetic pumping, whereas the former does not. When comparing the codes in different parameter regimes we find that the electron transit time magnetic pumping becomes noticeable not only for high temperatures but also for high plasma densities. When electron damping is negligible the agreement is good. For present JET parameters the global properties of wave propagation are important when determining the radiation resistance of the antenna.
