MEASUREMENT OF METASTABLE ARGON NUMBER DENSITIES IN THE INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA
A compact Xenon Arc Source has been used as a continuum source for the measurement of absorption by 19 lines originating from the metastable argon levels in the ICP. Appropriate curves of growth for these lines have been generated and number densities determined for each of the four metastable levels. Results are compared with those given by laser absorption at several positions in the plasma and for a variety of plasma conditions.
