Abstract

The theme of this seminar is "Fission revisited". Is this violent collective phenomenon in which a nucleus undergoes a series of vibrations until it is so deformed that it breaks fully understood in all of its phases?: (1) initial state formation (2) from initial state to scission in two or more fragments (3) from scission to the formation of fission products by prompt processes or "from primary fragments to fission products' (4) de-excitation of the fission products by delayed processes. A few aspects of ongoing research in relation to these different stages will be illustrated.
