ABPRESSUNG VON VORGEPREssTEN EXTRAHIERTEN RUEBENSCHNITZELN MITTELS EINER SPEZIELL ALS NACHPRESSE ENTWICKELTEN MASCHINE ZUM ZWECKE DER ENERGIEEINSPARUNG BEI DER THERMISCHEN TROCKNUNG. DEM. PROJECT
A byproduct of sugar production from sugar beet is beet pulp, which is processed to animal feed by mechanical pressing followed by heat drying. The project consisted of a twostage pressing process using a special secondary press from Messrs. Selwig und Lange in Brunswick in an attempt to reduce drying costs. The press resulted in a 3.5 % increase in dry matter with a throughput equivalent to between 1 400 and 1 500 tonnes of beet per day. This represents an energy saving of 270 toe in an 80day season. Development work on presses received a major boost owing to the high primary energy prices in the last few years. There are now presses on the market which raise the dry matter content of the pulp after extraction from about 9% to 30% in a single pressing cycle with a throughput of between 2 000 and 3 000 tonnes of beet per day. The twostage pressing process therefore no longer appears justified in view of the greater technical input required when the same results can be achieved with a single press.
