  • TEST PROCEDURES AND MINIMUM PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS TO DEMONSTRATE EQUIVALENCY OF SULPHUR DIOXIDE MEASUREMENT METHODS FOR EC COMPLIANCE MONITORING

Abstract

In this report test procedures are given to quantify the performance of a measurement method. These test procedures cover the essentials of the procedures used in the Member States and international standardization bodies. In addition to the test procedures, minimum requirements are given to demonstrate equivalence to the reference method. In order to facilitate "error budgeting', limits have been set to the "total measurement deviation' under realistic model conditions of field operation. The "total deviation' is the weighted sum of deviations described by various accuracy related performance characteristics like repeatability, drift, temperature dependence and selectivity. The performance requirements have a clear cut relation to the ability to accurately measure the EC limit values for ambient air. A computer program is available to calculate from test results the figures of merit for the different performance characteristics and to evaluate equivalency for all automated measurement methods used in the Member States.
