Abstract

Because of the nuclear accident of Chernobyl, the Radiation Protection Division of the Ispra Establishment of the J.R.C. of the Commission of the European Communities organized a task force for the collection, the measurement, the processing and the evaluation of all the useful and necessary elements for the correct management of a state of emergency. This publication particularly shows the measurements of the concentration of radionuclides in the air at the ground level, in vegetables, grass, milk, wheat, in some kinds of meat and the concentration of radioactive iodine and cesium in people of different place of origin. Results are compared to similar measurements carried out from 1960. The estimate of the dose equivalent absorbed by the population of the North-Western Italy concludes this publication.
