Abstract

In nuclear plants, the transition between the shell nozzle and the primary circuit tubings is realized by means of "safe-ends". In order to allow the welding of the ferritic steel nozzle to the stainless steel safe-end, an intermediate Inconel layer is necessary. The resulting trimetallic welds are difficult to examine nondestructively with ultrasound. Therefore PISC III in its activity NDW (Nozzles and Dissimilar metal welds) will make test pieces available for a round robin test. The list of envisaged test pieces which is representative of the main fabrication technologies existing today will be commented.
